Photographed from the NASA Hubble Space Telescope,
this is one of the first clear views of one of the hottest known stars in
our Milky Way galaxy, which resides in the center of the nebula ngc2440.
The super hot star, called the nucleus of ngc2440, is the brightest white
dot in the center of the photo. In previous ground based photographs, the
earth's atmosphere smeared out the light from the center of the nebula. By
clearly separating the light from the nebula and the star, astronomers
have been able to determine the temperature of the star, a torrid 200,000
or more (Celsius).
