The Painter's Easel. Nicolas Louis de Lacaille originally called it Equuleus Pictor. Equuleus can be a small horse, an ass, or an easel. The asterism of a crooked line is supposed to represent the easel seen (apparently) on edge, a testament to Lacaille's lack of imagination.
