This is the first image ever taken of auroras at Saturn's poles. The aurora is produced as trapped charged particles from the magnetosphere collide with the atmospheric gases, molecular and atomic hydrogen in this case. Saturn's magnetic field is nearly perfectly aligned with its planets' rotation, given the auroral ring, symmetrically centered on the pole.
